Behold!
Today's blog post is somewhat different from usual. The reason being that I want to announce my new zine "51 minutes".

This self-published booklet contains 39 photographs on 34 A4 pages, shot in the winter of 2017/2018. Most of them in black-and-white with the occasional colour image inbetween.
All of these pictures were taken on bus commutes in Dublin. The title refers to the approximate travel time from my old house near Blanchardstown in the suburbs of Dublin to the city centre.
The idea for this project emerged from a desire to constructively engage with the "dead time" of my daily commute. Instead of just staring at my phone for two hours every day, waiting for the distance to be overcome, I wanted to engage with my daily route to the city in a constructive visual matter.
My interest was also sparked by the view from the second floor of the bus. This unique perspective on the city is fascinating and is only really abe to be thoroughly explored from a double-decker bus.
When one spends a lot of time staring out of a bus window, certain patters start to emerge. The fact that only women and old people are to be seen in the suburbs during daytime. Familar faces sitting at super-market entrances. Few people ever looking upwards. Graphical properties and dynamics of sidewalks, street markings and cars. The story a hand on a steering wheel can tell.
And of course, all the people going about their daily business in the city. Some of them boarding the bus. All them are subjects of this zine.
