What do we really see in these photographs? Maybe only what we expect. The explanation for what it is being seen is provided by the way we learn how to read visual information.
Actually, all of these are just two-dimensional recordings of light, which have fallen on the electronic sensors of my camera when I pressed the shutter.
But the pixels make sense. They are arranged in the right way. They represent reality. At least that is how they are understood. From this their claim for representing truth is derived. Could a painting do the same if it would be indistinguishable from a photo?
Pretty interesting. Pretty unimportant. After all, it's really not that complicated. It's just a photograph. Does it show what is real?
